So since the dream was formed for this farm, nothing has gone as planned. It has taken longer than expected and cost more than budgeted. But that’s typical for a new business right? Especially one that you have never worked in and had nothing but a nudge from God to start. It’s all good though. We had enough money to get the fish house started and get all the equipment. There are a few key items we are lacking to start raising fish but we are getting there. We also constructed a “head house” that will work as a hub for all farm activity from packing and cooling to planning and staff meetings. It is air conditioned and heated and works great as a grow room in the interim. What is the best thing to grow in a grow room? Only the most nutrient dense foods on the planet – microgreens! Not only can this be done easily from the head house – it also helps me find the people who really “get” what we are doing. And those who are really interested in upping their nutrient load for better health.
We started with friends and family while learning. We played with different soils, different seed vendors, different temperatures. Discovered the importance of a good dehumidifier and gas heater. At the beginning of the year 2020 my mom took a turn for the worse and passed away in February. Things were slow moving but we were blessed with dedicated customers and a local farm, Boozer Farms, who were willing to take my trays and sell them for me, while we laid her to rest. God has been faithful each step of this journey. When coronavirus started to spread, we decided to start a home delivery service. No one wanted to get out of the house so we brought nutrition to them. Within a few months we had sold hundreds of bags and by June landed our first restaurant – Plant Bae, a vegan restaurant in Montgomery.
We are so grateful to our customers that have helped us get a start this year. It’s a crazy year in the world, but I know we can do just a little to help people up their defense against this pandemic. God will help us to do more if we stay faithful to the mission. We are more than a farm… we are a way of life.
